Recap of the recent past championship events:
Chris Moneymaker, a young accountant, emerged from anonymity and a $40 investment in a tournament at Poker Stars two years ago and won $2.5 million against a spread of 829 players. Greg Raymer, the reigning champion, a patent attorney with a predilection for fossils and strange sunglasses, walked away with $5 million last year when 2,576 players entered the main event in 2004.
