Watching a World Series of Poker tournament is much like watching an episode from the series of Highlander, although no one loses their head to a sword in the tournament, the battle is a difficult one and in the end there can Event #8 (Seven-Card Stud) played on June 11, 2005 at Rio All Suite Hotel and Casino Las Vegas, Nevada. The champion of this event was a non-stud player. Cliff Jospehy - a.k.a. "Bax", came to the WSOP 2005 to play Texas Hold 'em, the most popular version of poker in the world today. In fact, he went to Las Vegas to play in just two No-Limit Hold 'em Tournaments. After busting out on the very first day to what he says "by a horrible beat," he ended up with nothing to do on the next day. There did happen to be a Seven-Card-Stud Tournament, just one problem though, he had never played in a stud game tournament before. While ambling around the halls, with nothing to do, he bumped into a couple of friends. He mentioned to them that he would like to enter the stud event, but needed some pointer. They spent a few minutes, each, advising him on stud strategies. Now, here come the truly awsome part. The event had over four hundred and seventy entrants, each putting up $1,500 to enter. This gave a total prize pool of $651,360 of which Cliff took home the first place prize of $192,150 (the cash version of the Quickening). |
